New Delhi. As the border dispute in eastern Ladakh (Eastern Ladakh ) entered its fourth year, India and China on Sunday held fresh high-level military talks with a focus on resolving outstanding issues in the region. People familiar with the matter gave this information. The 18th round of military talks took place in view of Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu’s visit to India next week. Shangfu will be here to attend an important meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, which is being hosted by India. Sunday’s military talks come nearly four months after the last round of talks between senior army commanders of the two sides.
People familiar with the development said that the meeting took place at the Chushul-Moldo border rendezvous point on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. It is learned that the Indian side insisted on early resolution of issues relating to the remaining disputed sites of Demchok and Depsang in eastern Ladakh. During the talks, the Indian delegation was led by Lieutenant General Rashim Bali, Commander of the 14 Corps at Leh. This military corps handles the border security arrangements on the LAC in the Ladakh region.
Corps Commander level talks were set up to resolve the Eastern Ladakh dispute. India says that until there is peace in the border areas, its relations with China cannot be normal. The standoff on the eastern Ladakh border began on May 5, 2020, following a violent clash in the Pangong Lake area. In June 2020, after the fierce conflict in the Galvan Valley, the relations between the two countries had declined significantly. As a result of a series of military and diplomatic talks, both sides pulled back troops from the north and south banks of Pangong Lake and the Gogra area.
