Court convicts 9 accused in Delhi riots case

New Delhi. Delhi’s Karkardooma Court on Tuesday convicted 9 accused while giving its verdict in the 2020 Delhi riots case. The court said that the accused were part of the unruly mob which was damaging the properties of the people of the Hindu community. Mohammad Shahnawaz alias Shanu, Mohammad Shoaib alias Chutwa, Shahrukh, Rashid alias Raja, Azad, Ashraf Ali, Parvez, Mohammad Faisal were convicted in the case related to arson, vandalism and rioting in Delhi’s Gokulpuri area. They were identified with the help of CCTV cameras, viral videos on social media and public witnesses. Special Public Prosecutor DK Bhatia said that the court has fixed March 29 for hearing arguments on the sentence.

There were many allegations against Rashid alias Monu in this case. He was booked under sections related to rioting, theft and arson, destruction of properties by arson and illegal assembly. In the investigation, with the help of CCTV cameras, viral footage on social media and public witnesses, the accused were identified and action was taken against them. The investigating officer had told that all the accused were involved in the riots. In this, Mohammad Shahnawaz, Mohammad Shoaib, Shahrukh, Rashid, Azad, Ashraf Ali, Parvez, Mohammad Faisal and Rashid were arrested by the Crime Branch. After taking permission, all of them were interrogated and then arrested.

The house was attacked and looted
In the Delhi riot case, the complainant had told that his house was attacked and looted on the night of 24-25 February. The mob had set fire to his room on the top floor of his house. The perpetrators of rioting, sabotage and arson were identified. Mohammad Shahnawaz, Mohammad Shoaib, Shahrukh, Rashid, Azad, Ashraf Ali, Parvez and Mohd. Faisal and Rashid were arrested by the Crime Branch.
