Mumbai. At least eleven people died during the Maharashtra Bhushan Awards ceremony in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar on Sunday, while over 50 people were taken to hospital due to heat-related health issues. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited MGM Hospital where patients are being treated.

The Chief Minister has announced a compensation of five lakh (five lakh ) rupees to the next of kin of the deceased. Presently twenty-four people are being treated in the hospital. Social activist Dattatreya Narayan alias Appasaheb Dharmadhikari was given the Maharashtra Bhushan Award. During this, lakhs of his followers participated in the grand program. Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the award instituted by the Government of Maharashtra to Dharmadhikari.

People started arriving for this program since morning. The program started at around 11.30 am and went on till around 1 pm. A revenue department official who was on duty at the venue said, ‘A total of 123 people complained of heat-related health ailments, such as dehydration, during the event. They were immediately sent to 30 medical booths set up at the venue. Thirteen patients who needed further treatment were shifted to different private hospitals and the condition of one of them is critical.

‘A total of 30 doctors were deployed at medical booths, which had Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities, to treat people.’ Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis termed the deaths as ‘unfortunate and distressing’ and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. expressed his condolences. In a tweet, Fadnavis said, “It is very unfortunate and distressing that some members who attended the Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony this morning died due to heat stroke.”
He further wrote in his tweet, ‘My heartfelt tribute. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased through the state government. He also said that the state government will bear the expenses of the treatment of those undergoing treatment. He further said, ‘The Chief Minister himself visited the hospital and took information and gave proper instructions to the doctors. The administration is maintaining full coordination and we are constantly in touch with senior officials.
