New Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday appointed Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda as central observers for the selection of party legislature party leaders in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh respectively. . The new leader of the legislature party will become the Chief Minister of his state. It is expected that the meeting of BJP Legislative Party of Madhya Pradesh may be held on Monday and the meeting of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan BJP Legislative Party may be held on Sunday.( Monday)
According to a statement issued by the party, apart from Rajnath Singh, Rajya Sabha member Saroj Pandey and party general secretary Vinod Tawde have been appointed as central observers for the selection of the leader of the legislative party in Rajasthan. All of them will go to Jaipur on Sunday, where the name of the Chief Minister will be discussed. There is a strong discussion within the BJP that the party can ignore the claims of two-time Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and hand over the command of the state to a new face in her place.
Khattar with party’s OBC Morcha chief K. Laxman and national secretary Asha Lakra will also attend the Madhya Pradesh meeting, while Munda along with Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam will be central observers for Chhattisgarh. In the recently concluded assembly elections of five states, BJP had won in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. The party had not announced the chief ministerial face in these elections.
In Madhya Pradesh, where BJP won a big victory with two-thirds majority, the claim of current Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is considered to be the strongest, but there is also an opinion within the party about change of leadership in the state. Barring 15 months after the 2018 assembly elections, BJP has been in power in the state for 18 years. Therefore, there is an idea within the party to bet on a new face in the state.
Sources said that BJP is considering handing over the reins of Chhattisgarh to an OBC or tribal leader. Sources said that Scheduled Tribe leaders like Lata Usendi, Gomti Sai and Renuka Singh are natural contenders for the top post. State President Arun Sao and bureaucrat-turned-politician OP Choudhary also belong to backward castes.
The party would like to elect at least one woman chief minister at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been consistently highlighting the support of women voters for the BJP and has often talked about the need for women-led development. Of the three observers for Chhattisgarh, two are from the tribal community, while Gautam comes from the Scheduled Caste.
