Ratnagiri: Dawood (Dawood’s) Ibrahim’s properties are going to be auctioned once again on January 5. It is expected that some people will come to bid on these properties. The intention of such people is to prove themselves patriots and show the world that they are not afraid of the name of Dawood. Such auctions are also an opportunity for many people to shine, because the national media takes a lot of interest in them. The process of auctioning Dawood’s properties started 25 years ago. In December 2000, Dawood’s property was auctioned for the first time by the Income Tax Department, but due to fear of Dawood, not a single bidder came to the auction venue.
No one came to bid in the auction held in December 2000.
, 11 properties of Dawood were kept for auction, Income Tax officials sat in the hotel hall for 2 hours, but no one came to bid. Even though Dawood is sitting miles away in Karachi, the fear of him still remains in Mumbai. Due to his fear, no one came to bid on Dawood’s property. If property in a prime area of the city is being sold at throwaway prices, yet no buyer is found, then what other reason could there be behind it?
Dawood’s property was purchased in 2001 auction, but possession has not been received yet.
Shiv Sainik Ajay Srivastava had once dug up the pitch of Delhi’s Ferozshah Kotla ground after the announcement of late Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray, so that Pakistani cricket players could not play matches there. Srivastava, a lawyer by profession, told me that the next time there is an auction, he will come to Mumbai to bid on Dawood’s property. This was Srivastava’s personal decision, not that of Shiv Sena. The next auction took place in March 2001 and Ajay Srivastava was the only bidder in that auction. He bid on two shops of Dawood in Jairajbhai Gali, Nagpada and bought it. Even though on paper he had become the owner of those two shops, till date Ajay Srivastava has not been able to get the possession of those shops. Even they could go to see him only once, and that too with tight police arrangements.
To gain possession, Ajay Srivastava had filed a case in the Small Causes Court, in which Dawood’s sister Haseena Parkar was the defendant. Initially, no one from Parkar’s side came to the court on several dates, but when the court warned that it would give an “ex parte” (unilateral) order, Hasina’s lawyers started coming. In 2011, Srivastava won the case. Despite this, till date they have not been able to get the possession of the property and they are making rounds of the courts. Dawood’s sister challenged the order of the Small Causes Court in the Bombay High Court. Haseena Parkar died on 6 July 2014 and after that Haseena’s children are fighting the case further.
Ajay Srivastava received threatening calls from D Company
Meanwhile, Ajay Srivastava also received threatening calls from D-Company. Once Dawood’s relatives even offered him to give up his claim on the property by taking money, but Ajay Srivastava refused. He is still fighting the case. The auction of the property was an attack on Dawood’s status and it would have been a disgrace for D Company if the possession was taken away. Srivastava once offered to donate the property to Mumbai Police, but Mumbai Police refused to accept it.
Dawood’s ancestral house was also bought in the auction held in 2021, but possession has not been received yet.
In the year 2021, once again Dawood’s properties seized under the anti-trafficking law SAFEMA were auctioned. In this auction, Dawood’s ancestral house in Mumbke village of Ratnagiri district was also listed. Dawood was born in this house. Ajay Srivastava once again bid on this property and won. This time also they could not get possession of the property. There were some discrepancies in the documents prepared by the government department, due to which the property could not be registered in his name. After a lot of efforts, those mistakes have now been rectified and Srivastava is hopeful that the property will be registered in his name soon.
Piyush Jain had also bought Dawood’s property, now he is going through the court.
Like Ajay Srivastava, a Delhi businessman named Piyush Jain is also regretting bidding on Dawood’s property. In the auction held on 20 September 2001, he had bid on a shop in Tardev area. This shop named Umera Engineering Works is of 144 square feet. Despite winning the auction, till date that property has not been transferred to his name, although no threat was given to him by D Company, but this time the matter got stuck because of the Maharashtra Government. The Maharashtra government objected to the property being purchased on their behalf in the auction and said that the Maharashtra government had some liability on behalf of that property. In such a situation, they cannot take possession of the property. The Jain brothers then filed a petition in the Mumbai High Court to get possession and are now making rounds of the court.
Now once again Dawood’s property is being auctioned. This time, four properties in Ratnagiri district in the name of Dawood’s mother Amina B will be auctioned, the total value of which is around Rs 19 lakh. The property being auctioned is agricultural land. Earlier in the year 2017, Dawood’s Dambarwala Building property was also auctioned in Mumbai.
