New Delhi: A 16-year-old girl allegedly shot a 50-year-old woman with a country-made pistol in North East Delhi’s Bhajanpura, the minor has been apprehended. Delhi Police officials gave information about this incident on Saturday. According to the police, the minor had accused the woman’s 25-year-old son of rape in 2021 and the man is currently in jail. Officials said that the woman has been admitted to the hospital after being shot and her condition is being told out of danger.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Sanjay Kumar Sen said that the police control room received information about firing in Ghonda area of Bhajanpura at around 5:30 pm on Saturday. When a police team reached the spot, they were told that the woman was shot by a minor known to her and the victim was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital by local residents. When the police reached the hospital, they came to know that the woman runs a grocery shop on the ground floor of her house. He was at his shop when the girl approached him, shot him and then fled from the spot.
The victim, her family and local residents were all able to identify the accused girl. An investigator said the girl was nabbed within hours and the country-made pistol used by her has been recovered. According to the police, ‘It has come to light that the minor girl had accused the woman’s 25-year-old son of rape in 2021. A case was registered against the accused under IPC 376 and relevant sections of the POCSO Act and he was arrested. He is currently lodged in jail.
Another investigator said it was not yet known why the girl shot the woman, even though her son had already been arrested. Police said, “The investigation is in the preliminary stage and after a long questioning of the girl, the motive behind her firing at the woman will be clear.” We are also talking to the woman, her family and the family of the accused to find out the motive. The police is also probing how and from where the weapon came to the girl.
