The officials of the Election Commission are in action regarding the Karnataka assembly elections and they have seized 236 kg of gold ( 236 kg gold ) and silver items along with crores of cash, liquor, illegal drugs. Election Commission is active here to ensure that the model code of conduct is not violated. Along with the police, the election officials are also taking action while being vigilant. The Model Code of Conduct came into force in Karnataka on 29 March. The main goal of the code of conduct is to prevent the ruling parties from misusing their advantageous position at the national level and in the states to gain undue advantage.
Election officials have since reported seizures of cash, illegal drugs including liquor, and hundreds of kilos of gold and silver articles worth crores of rupees. Reports say that the authorities have seized Rs 67,76,73,338 since the election code of conduct came into force. So far, a total of 2,466 FIRs have been registered in Bengaluru under the code of conduct violation. More than Rs 10 crore has been seized in 25 different cases. Hemp and drugs worth 9.71 crores, as well as more than 5 lakh liters of liquor worth 24.3 crores have been seized.
Gold and silver articles worth 11 crores and 354 vehicles were also seized.
The total quantity of gold and silver metal seized is 236 kg with a market value of Rs 11 crore. Gifts worth about 5.47 lakhs brought to be distributed to the voters were raided and seized at various places across the city. At several checkpoints across the city, 354 vehicles were impounded for violating the model code of conduct; Their estimated cost is Rs 5.7 crore.
