US decides to send Patriot air defense system to Ukraine

Moscow. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said after America’s decision to send Patriot air defense system to Kyiv amid the ongoing war in Ukraine that the Patriot air defense system is too old and they will destroy it. The US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, this week announced an additional US$850 million in security assistance for Ukraine. This brings total military aid to Kyiv to US$21.9 billion since the beginning of the Joe Biden administration. This new American aid also included the Patriot air defense system. Which is capable of shooting down cruise missiles, short-range ballistic missiles and aircraft from a great height.

Vladimir Putin told reporters that ‘it is said that the Patriot system can be sent to Ukraine. Let them do this, we will destroy the Patriot as well and they will have to send something else to replace it or make a new system. Putin also said that the delivery of the Patriot air defense system would further escalate the war. Putin said that ‘we keep this in mind and count everything that is sent there. How many systems do depots have, how many and how fast can they build and how many necessary personnel can they train. All these are accounted for.

Putin made these remarks in response to a question on the agreement to supply Patriot missiles to Ukraine. An agreement regarding this was reached during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to America. Russian President Putin dismissed the Patriot air defense system as an ‘outdated system’ and said that it does not work like our S-300. Regarding the war in Ukraine, Putin said that Russia is aiming to end the conflict soon.
