Objectionable material found from both the arrested Imams

Guwahati: There has been a disclosure again about the network of terrorist organization Al Qaeda in India. After the arrest of two Imams who were arrested from Goalpara district of Assam, the police got some important information about the designs of Al-Qaeda. A senior Assam Police official said that six Bangladeshi terrorists who entered Assam a few years ago contacted people in four areas and some remote areas dominated by the Muslim community.

According to the information received by the Assam Police, Bangladeshi terrorists affiliated to AQIS/ABT had recruited many people in the state and seduced many people. Out of 6 Bangladeshi terrorists affiliated to AQIS/ABT, one terrorist was arrested by Assam Police and five are still absconding and their search is on.

Earlier, the Goalpara district police arrested two imams belonging to the Al-Qaeda Indian subcontinent and Ansarullah Bangla team from the lower district of Assam and identified them as Imam Abdus Subhan of Tinkunia Shantipur Mosque under Mornoi police station. While the other Imam of Natun Masjid is Jalaluddin Sheikh. Out of the 6 Bangladeshi terrorists, two terrorists were living in the areas of Goalpara district for the last 2-3 years. Goalpara district superintendent of police VV Rakesh Reddy told ANI that the links of those arrested three days ago in Goalpara have been found actively with Barpeta and Morigaon modules of AQIS/ABT.

After the arrest, a search of their homes found objectionable items like jihadi material, books, pamphlets, posters, broken phones, SIM cards. Further inquiry is on. We have got some evidence which will come out later with cooperation from local sources and further enquiry. Some of these were already recruited by these individuals in the al-Qaeda network. We are trying to nab all of them and alert other districts as well.
