New Delhi: Delhi Police has made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident ahead of a mahapanchayat called by various farmer groups at Jantar Mantar in the capital on Monday. Delhi Police said that due to the gathering of farmers, there could be traffic problem. To avoid any untoward incident, a large number of soldiers have been deployed and barricaded in the border areas of Delhi.
Delhi’s Special Commissioner of Police Law and Order Deependra Pathak said that he has requested the farmers to go back. Police officials said they have come to know that the United Kisan Morcha and various farmer groups have planned to organize a mahapanchayat at Jantar Mantar. Keeping in mind the gravity of the situation, we have put up barricades to avoid untoward incidents. A large number of police personnel have been deployed along the railway tracks, along the border areas and at intersections.
Delhi Metro has also been put on high alert. Police will be stationed there too. According to the information, the farmer leader Rakesh Tikait was stopped by the police personnel at Ghazipur border on Sunday when he was going to Jantar Mantar and asked to go back. When he did not agree, he was detained and taken to Madhu Vihar police station. The police have kept barricades and concrete structures near the border in view of the possibility of farmers coming to Delhi.
On Monday, more than two hundred police and paramilitary personnel will be deployed on the border. Four inspector level officers will keep an eye on the situation here under the supervision of the ACP. Along with this, the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the district will also keep an eye on the activities of the border. Surveillance has also been increased at Ghazipur, Maharajpur, Apsara border, Chilla and Bhopura border.
The Delhi Police official said that on Monday, the traffic on the border will be normal. But if the police has got information that farmers are using the border to participate in the mahapanchayat, then it can be stopped. In view of the situation, the route of vehicles passing through the border can be changed. In view of the emergency, the police have also prepared alternate traffic plans.
