Kabul Security Department spokesman Khalid Zadran confirmed that an explosion occurred today at PD 17 in Kabul. People present at the time of the blast told Reuters that explosions were heard in a neighborhood in northern Kabul, shattering windows of nearby buildings. An ambulance reached the spot and started taking people to the hospital.

At the same time, a Taliban intelligence official said that 35 people were injured and the death toll could rise further. Quoting an unidentified official, the death toll was 20. Kabul’s emergency hospital said on Twitter that 27 injured patients had been admitted to their hospital, including a seven-year-old child.
