Earthquake tremors in Andaman and Nicobar, magnitude 5.3 on Richter scale

 

Port Blair. Earthquake tremors have been felt in many areas of Andaman and Nicobar. Its intensity was 4.1 on the Richter scale. These tremors came at 11.04 pm on Saturday night. There is no news of any damage to property due to the earthquake. According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter of this earthquake was located 3 km south-west of Diglipur in Andaman.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Andaman and Nicobar Islands last month as well. The National Center for Seismology had then reported that the magnitude of this earthquake was 4.9 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the quake was 70 km from Campbell Base. It was a matter of relief that even then there was no loss of life and property due to the earthquake.

It is being said that this is increasing the risk of a major earthquake. In terms of earthquakes, scientists have divided the country into five different zones. These are – Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and the entire area of ​​North-East India, Kutch in Gujarat, North Bihar and Andaman and Nicobar are in ‘Seismic Zone-Five’. That is, in these areas, there can be a dangerous earthquake of 8 magnitude on the Richter scale at any time. This can cause great loss of life and property.
