Panaji: In Goa, newly elected MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vishwajit Rane met Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai on Saturday. As the new government is yet to be sworn in in the state, their meeting has fueled political speculation. However, Rane later said that it was their personal meeting.
According to sources, Vishwajit Rane is projecting himself as the chief ministerial candidate of Goa after the BJP won 20 seats out of 40 in the Goa Assembly elections. Two MLAs of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three independents have already extended their support to the BJP. BJP is preparing to form the government in the state for the third time in a row.
Rane met the governor at a time when the governor has dissolved the state assembly, whose term ends on March 15. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant submitted his resignation to the Governor, paving the way for the formation of a new government.
Trying to put an end to all the speculations, Rane, the former state health minister, issued a statement saying that his meeting with the governor was personal. Rane said he wanted to invite the governor to his Valpoi constituency and seek his blessings after the election victory. “Everything is not politics. ,
