Yogi Adityanath Targets Opposition, Says Merit-Based Recruitment and Improved Law & Order Have Changed UP

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday criticized the opposition over issues related to police recruitment and law and order, asserting that jobs in the state are now being provided with complete transparency and that merit alone is the basis for selection. He said there was a time when even senior police officers were not safe, but good governance and the rule of law have transformed the situation.

Addressing a programme in Lucknow, the Chief Minister distributed appointment letters to 930 Computer Operators (Grade-A) selected by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. He said that a strong law and order system begins with a fair recruitment process and proper training.

Yogi Adityanath stated that examinations for nearly 35,000 police constable posts were recently conducted, attracting around 2.8 million applicants. He also mentioned that the recruitment process for about 41,000 Home Guard posts has been initiated.

Highlighting the government’s achievements, the Chief Minister said that around 2.15 lakh police personnel have been recruited in various phases over the last nine years. According to him, all these recruitments were carried out transparently without any recommendation or discrimination.

Recalling the law and order situation of the past, Yogi Adityanath referred to an incident in Moradabad in which a DIG-rank IPS officer was attacked during violence. He said that if even a senior police officer was not safe at that time, one could imagine the condition of ordinary citizens and women.

He maintained that the present government has brought significant improvements in the state’s law and order scenario through transparent recruitment and effective governance.
