Washington: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar (Jaishankar) participated in the Quad conference today (Wednesday). He is on a four-day US tour. In a Washington DC press conference, he said that zero tolerance on terrorism is our policy. He also mentioned Operation Sindoor and put forth his point without naming Pakistan.
Jaishankar further said- ‘If you look at the Prime Minister’s address to the nation after the firing stopped on May 10 (conflict with Pakistan), there were some very clear messages in it. It is really for the terrorist groups and their sponsors to absorb and consider those messages. I don’t think we will make it clear that if this happens, we will do so. I mean, no government does that.”
We have the right to self-defense
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said, “…I have shared with each of my counterparts the sentiment that we have the right to defend ourselves in the face of terrorist challenges. We have been facing this for the last several decades. We are determined to respond strongly to it. The terrorists and their masters must be brought to justice and this is important because we have to tell the world that the purpose of what we did on May 7 during Operation Sindoor is that if there is a terrorist attack, we will take action against the perpetrators, supporters and enablers. This message was conveyed with great clarity.”
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said: “The primary purpose of my visit was to attend the Board of Foreign Ministers meeting. I held bilateral meetings with my counterparts. We all strongly agreed that our common objective in the region is to strengthen strategic stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The meeting and discussions were primarily focused on scaling up the implementation of various initiatives and projects. In view of recent developments, we also spent some time discussing the Israel-Iran conflict as well as the actions taken by the US in Iran.”
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said, “…We also hope to hold the Quad Summit in India later this year and we had a meaningful discussion about its preparation…” He added, “…We have launched the Quad Critical Minerals Initiative and it will focus specifically on mineral recovery, which is very important to all of us. We decided that the Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network which was launched earlier in the year will conduct its own field training exercise very soon. A maritime legal dialogue at the expert level will be held virtually later this month. We have taken some steps to expand the Indo-Pacific partnership on maritime domain awareness through our Gurugram Fusion Centre…”
Dr S Jaishankar said, “…All Quad Ministers strongly agreed that our goal in the Quad was to strengthen strategic stability in the Indo-Pacific and the discussions in this meeting were primarily dedicated to enhancing delivery on various initiatives and projects. We had a very open discussion on regional issues of the Indo-Pacific. In view of recent developments, it is natural that we also discussed the Israel-Iran conflict and the actions taken by the US in Iran.”
