Apple: iPhone maker Apple has assured the Indian ( India) government that there will be no change in its investment plans for the country. Apple’s commitment has come after US President Donald Trump publicly criticized Apple’s manufacturing presence in India. quoted a government source as saying that there is no change in Apple’s investment plans in India and the company has assured the Indian government about its commitment to use India as a major manufacturing base.

US President Donald Trump said during a business event in Doha, Qatar that he had talked with Apple CEO Tim Cook about the company’s growing operations in India. Trump said, ‘Yesterday I had a little problem with Tim Cook. I told him my friend, I have been treating you very well… but now I have come to know that you are manufacturing all over India. I don’t want you to manufacture in India. I told Cook that India can take care of itself. Apple should increase its manufacturing in the US instead of India.’
India’s electronics industry confident
Despite these comments, India’s electronics industry is confident. “It may cause a little slowdown, but I really don’t think it will affect India that much,” said Rajo Goyal, general secretary of the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA). Goyal described Trump’s comments as “just a statement” and hoped that the US president “may change his stance.”
iPhones being made in large numbers in India
India has become an important manufacturing base for Apple. The company produced iPhones worth about $22 billion in the country in the fiscal year ending March 2025, a 60% increase over the previous year. Currently, one in every five iPhones worldwide is manufactured in India.
