Dhaka/New Delhi: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s troubles have increased a lot. The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus on Saturday evening banned former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League. This action has been taken under the anti-terrorism (terrorism) law. This move is being considered a big blow to Sheikh Hasina.
Yunus’s office said, “The official gazette notification in this regard will be issued on the next working day.” The statement said that the ban will remain in force until the ongoing hearing in the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against the Awami League and its leaders is completed, so that the security and sovereignty of the country can be protected.
Changes made in the law to bring Sheikh Hasina to the dock
The Yunus government also said that this decision has been taken to ensure the safety of the leaders and activists of the movement held in July 2024. Apart from this, this decision has also been taken to protect the complainants and witnesses prosecuted in the International Crimes Tribunal. In the meeting chaired by Yunus, changes were also made in the ICT law, due to which now any political party and its organizations can be prosecuted.
