Delhi: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav ( Ashwini Vaishnav) has given information in Parliament regarding online cancellation of tickets purchased from railway counters. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in Parliament that tickets purchased from ticket counters can be cancelled online through IRCTC website or inquiry number 139, but one will have to go to the railway reservation centre to receive the amount.
BJP MP asked question
BJP MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni had asked whether there is a need to go to the station before the departure of the train to cancel the ticket. In a written reply to this question, Vaishnav said in the Rajya Sabha that the ticket will be cancelled at the reservation counter on handing over the waitlisted ticket taken from the PRS counter (Railway Reservation Centre) as per the time limit prescribed in the Railway Passenger (Ticket Cancellation and Fare Refund) Rules 2015.
Can be cancelled online through 139
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, ‘However, under normal circumstances PRS counter tickets can also be cancelled online through IRCTC website or 139 within the time limit prescribed as per Railway Passenger (Ticket Cancellation and Fare Refund) Rules 2015 and the refund amount can be taken by submitting the ticket at the original PRS counter of the reservation counters.’
People still buy tickets from railway counters
Buying tickets from railway counters is still a traditional and reliable way to travel in Indian Railways. If you want to get a ticket from the railway counter, the process is generally straightforward. Most railway counters are open from 8 am to 8 pm. 24-hour service is also available at some big stations. There may be long queues at the counter during festivals or rush hours, so keep an eye on the time.
