Gangtok: More than 1200 domestic tourists are stranded due to road blockage due to heavy rain ( rain ) and landslide in Lachung in Mangan district of Sikkim. According to reports, 15 foreign tourists are also in trouble due to the roads being broken and blocked. The foreign tourists include 2 tourists from Thailand, 3 from Nepal and 10 from Bangladesh. It is being told that all the tourists are safe but they cannot move towards their destination right now. Local authorities have advised them to remain at their place and avoid taking any risk.
‘No threat of food shortage’
The people who are stranded are not in any immediate danger of food shortage, as there is enough ration available to provide food to everyone. The office of the Chief Secretary of Sikkim has started discussions with the Government of India for possible airlifting of tourists when the weather is favorable. Alternatively, if necessary, evacuation will be arranged by road.
Problem only in Lachung area
The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department of Sikkim is working closely with the district administration, police department and local tourism stakeholders in Mangan district to ensure safe evacuation of tourists. Officials are assuring help to all the stranded tourists in this hour of crisis. Only the area of Lachung is affected due to heavy rains and landslides, while the state of Sikkim is open and safe for travel.
Many houses damaged due to landslides
Let us tell you that due to continuous rains for the last few days, many houses have been damaged due to landslides in Lower Tintek ward of East Sikkim. The condition of Singtam-Dikchu road in Marchak is also worrying. Due to heavy rains, life has been disrupted and people are facing many problems.
