New Delhi: Less than 100 days are left for the Lok Sabha elections. Election dates are yet to be announced. In the elections, PM Modi has set a target of 400 seats for NDA and 370 seats for BJP alone. BJP is making full efforts to achieve this. On the other hand, the issue of seat sharing in the INDIA alliance of opposition parties seems to be resolved late. On Wednesday, the Congress-S (Congress) amajwadi Party deal was finalized in UP. Then Congress has almost locked the deal with Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Goa and Chandigarh. Now it is TMC’s turn. It is being said that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has agreed to talk to Congress on seat sharing in 3 states including Bengal.
According to sources, talks are going on between Congress and TMC regarding the seats of West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya and they are moving in a positive direction. Under the seat sharing formula, TMC can get 36 seats and Congress can get 5 seats in Bengal. Earlier, Mamata Banerjee had announced to contest the elections alone on all 42 seats of Bengal.
According to sources, Congress wants 6 seats in Bengal. In return, Congress is ready to give 2 seats to TMC in Assam and 1 seat in Meghalaya. At present talks are going on on this formula. The finalization of the deal can be announced soon.
First of all, Mamata Banerjee announced to contest the elections alone in West Bengal after the talks on seat sharing did not work out. After this, Arvind Kejriwal also followed the same path. Nitish Kumar, who united the opposition, changed sides and joined NDA.
Then things deteriorated with the Samajwadi Party and it seemed that the INDIA alliance would end even before the elections. However, after talks with Akhilesh, the situation has changed. Other parties can also join Congress.
The seat sharing formula for the opposition alliance is still to be decided in Bihar and Jharkhand. Nitish Kumar has changed sides in Bihar. In such a situation, Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal will have to form an alliance. Top leaders of both the parties are very active for this. On the other hand, Congress and JMM are in the coalition government in Jharkhand. Because of this, seat sharing can happen easily here also.
