New Delhi. North India, which is suffering from bone-chilling cold, (cold) has no hope of relief for a few more days. the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated this by issuing a red alert on Sunday. According to this, cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and North Rajasthan for the next three-four days.
Chill continues due to cold winds
Due to the moisture coming from the Arabian Sea and the continuous cold winds, the chill continues. While there is severe cold at night, there is shivering during the day also due to presence of fog and clouds. The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for Monday. There will be dense or very dense fog in the morning. The maximum temperature is likely to be 17 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be five degrees Celsius.
Yellow alert has been issued for Tuesday. Due to this, moderate to dense fog may occur. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of relief from cold and fog. There will be light or moderate fog in the morning on Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The maximum temperature on that day is likely to be 18 to 20 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be seven to nine degrees Celsius.
Mercury dropped in Delhi-UP
According to IMD, the minimum temperature in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Western Uttar Pradesh as well as some parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh has been between three to seven degrees Celsius. It is down two to four degrees Celsius and close to normal in the rest of North India.
On Sunday, the lowest temperature in Haryana was recorded in Mahendragarh at 2.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.7 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature in Rajasthan’s tourist destination Mount Abu has reached two degrees Celsius. More than 15 long distance trains running to places like Delhi, Ambala, Jammu, Chandigarh etc. are running late.
More than 300 flights affected by extremely dense fog
Due to fog, there was zero visibility at Delhi’s IGI Airport for six and a half hours from 2.30 am on Saturday night to 9 am on Sunday. Due to this, more than 300 flights were affected at IGI Airport. On the other hand, more than 90 trains also reached Delhi with a delay of about one and a half to 14 hours.
There were more delays in domestic flights
Due to dense fog, there was a huge impact on the flights operating from IGI Airport. Domestic flights were mostly affected. More than two-thirds of the delayed flights were domestic flights. Among international flights, 31 arrivals and 32 departures were delayed.
At the same time, in domestic flights, 131 departure and 108 arrival flights were delayed. Not only this, 15 flights also had to be cancelled. Apart from this, two international flights coming to Delhi from London and Paris were diverted to Jaipur.
