Dhaka: Bangladesh  ( Bangladesh) Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina again registered a landslide victory on Sunday from the Gopalganj-3 parliamentary seat amid sporadic violence and the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party boycotting the elections. Sheikh Hasina got 249,965 votes, while her nearest rival and Bangladesh Supreme Party’s M Nizam Uddin Lashkar got only 469 votes.

Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and Election Officer Qazi Mahbubool Alam announced the result. He has won the Gopalganj-3 seat eight times since 1986. According to the trends so far, Awami League candidates are leading on most of the seats.

Earlier on Sunday, Sheikh Hasina said that she is not concerned about the acceptance of foreign media regarding the elections because their acceptance among the people of the country is the most important issue. Hasina made this comment after casting her vote in the country’s 12th general elections. The main opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had boycotted the elections. According to the initial estimates of the Election Commission, voting has been around 40 percent but the final figures will be revealed only later. Responding to a question as to how acceptable the elections would be (in the foreign media) amidst the BNP boycott, Hasina said that her responsibility was towards the people.

Sheikh Hasina said, “Whether people accept this election or not is important for me. Therefore, I am not concerned about their (foreign media) acceptance. Does it not matter what the ‘terrorist group’ said or not?
“We don’t care who says what.”

Sheikh Hasina said, “I have to prove my credibility. Okay, but towards whom? To a terrorist party? To a terrorist organization? No, I have accountability towards my people. (I think) whether people accept the election or not, it is important for me.” On interference by foreign countries, he said his Awami League party does not care who says what about the election. Is.
