Farmers protested against the film ‘Suryavanshi’, tore movie posters

Chandigarh. Some farmers protesting against the central government’s agricultural laws stopped the screening of Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Sooryavanshi’ in five cinemas in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur. According to news agency PTI, the protesters tore the posters of ‘Sooryavanshi’ outside the cinema hall. These protesters say that they are opposing Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar because he did not support his protest.

The workers of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Qadian) were demonstrating under the leadership of Swaran Dhugga, the district unit president of the organization. The people of the organization also marched from Shaheed Udham Singh Park in the city to Swarn Cinema in protest against the film ‘Suryavanshi’. They stopped the cinema owners from showing the film. The protesters say that they will not allow the film to be shown until the agricultural laws are withdrawn.

Since November last year, hundreds of farmers have been sitting on a dharna on the Delhi border demanding the withdrawal of these agricultural laws. They claim that these agricultural laws will leave them at the mercy of the corporates. They are also demanding a legal guarantee of minimum support price for agricultural produce. On the other hand, the central government, which has held 11 rounds of talks with farmers’ organizations to break this deadlock, has maintained that the new agricultural laws are pro-farmer.
