Gadchiroli: There has been a stir in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra due to the death of 5 people of the same family. The surprising thing is that 5 people have died within 20 days and what is even more surprising is that two women (, Two women) of the same house have been arrested on charges of murder. In fact, a senior police officer said that two women have been arrested for killing five members of their family in Gadchiroli in 20 days. It is alleged that the two women allegedly mixed poison in the food and water, which they had brought from Telangana, to get rid of the dead. Both of them had tried to present this murder as food poisoning.
The senior police officer said one of the accused was apparently angry over the periodic taunts from her husband and in-laws, while the other woman had disagreements with the victims over the division of their ancestral property. Two other members of the family and their driver also fell ill due to poisoning. Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Neelotpal said in a statement that after treatment, the condition of all three is now stable.
According to the police, the deaths of five family members occurred between September 26 and October 15. The deceased complained of tingling in the limbs, severe pain in the lower back and head, black lips and heavy tongue. Everyone from relatives to the local people were shocked by the murder of 5 family members in just 20 days. According to the police, Shankar Kumbhare and his wife Vijaya Kumbhare of Mahagaon village in Aheri tehsil fell ill on September 20 and their condition deteriorated within a short time. He was first taken to Chandrapur and then to a big hospital in Nagpur.
Although Shankar died on September 26, his wife died the next day, the official said. While Kumbhare’s family members were mourning the deaths, Shankar’s son Roshan and daughters Komal Dahagaonkar and Anand alias Varsha Urade showed similar symptoms and were admitted to different hospitals. The police release said that despite receiving help from doctors with various medicines, all three died between October 8 and October 15. In this way, 5 people of the family died in 20 days and a mountain of troubles fell on the family. Meanwhile, Shankar’s second son Sagar, who lives in Delhi and had come to his village to perform the last rites of his parents, fell ill after returning. Police said that he needed to be admitted to the hospital, after which his condition became stable.
According to the police, after this the driver of Riwar, who was taking Shankar and Vijaya to Chandrapur, also fell ill and needed to be admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile, a relative, who had gone to Chandrapur and Nagpur to help the family, complained of symptoms like tingling in limbs, severe pain in lower back and head and blackening of lips and had to be admitted to the hospital. The official said that doctors suspected that the victims had been affected by some kind of poison, but preliminary investigation could not prove this. Amid the spate of deaths in the Kumbhare family, Roshan’s wife Sanghamitra and Shankar’s brother-in-law’s wife Roza Ramteke said the deaths were due to food poisoning, police said. SP Neelotpal said that after being alerted about the mysterious deaths and hospitalization of three people for unexplained reasons, the police formed five teams to investigate the matter.
During investigation, the police came to know that Sanghamitra had married Roshan against the wishes of her parents. Apparently, Roshan and his in-laws often taunted him. On the other hand, the police found that Roza Ramteke had a fight with the victims over the division of her ancestral property. The officer said he focused his investigation around the two women and thus solved the murders. According to the police, Sanghamitra and Roja conspired to eliminate those they considered their enemies. Roja had traveled to Telangana to collect poison and whenever they got a chance, they mixed it in the food and water of the victims. The driver of the Kumbhare family drank water from the bottle that Shankar and Vijaya were carrying while going to Chandrapur for the first time. Police said that poison was mixed in the water and due to this the driver became ill.
SP Neelotpal said that both the women were taken into custody on Wednesday morning. Mainly the main reason for murder is mental torture by husband and in-laws and dispute over ancestral property. He said that further investigation is being done by Gadchiroli Police and the possibility of involvement of more people is also being investigated.
