The Delhi Police on Sunday registered an FIR against the organizers of the wrestlers’ protest at Jantar Mantar and their supporters for rioting and obstructing the work of government employees. According to the information received, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang (Bajrang) Punia have been booked for rioting by registering an FIR. The wrestler was detained on Sunday for violating law and order after breaking the security cordon and trying to move towards the new Parliament House for the ‘mahapanchayat’. At the same time, their tents etc. were also removed from the protest site at Jantar Mantar.
The country’s top wrestlers resumed their agitation on April 23 demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Brij Bhushan Singh has been accused of alleged sexual harassment of several women wrestlers including a minor. Police said that 700 people were detained across Delhi, including 109 protesters at Jantar Mantar. Case registered under serious sections
According to a senior police officer, sections 188 (disobedience to order of public servant), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) FIR has been registered under.
He said that IPC sections 352 (assault or criminal force other than grave provocation), 147 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly) are also included in the FIR.
