Kerala. NIA has once again taken major action regarding the terrorist activities of Popular Front of India (PFI). The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached one of the oldest and biggest arms and physical ( physical) training centers of this banned organization in Kerala. This is the sixth PFI arms training center and the 18th property of the organisation, which has been attached by the NIA as ‘proceeds of terrorism’ under the provisions of UAPA in the state. On March 17, 2023, the NIA filed a charge sheet against 59 accused including PFI in the case (RC-02/2022/NIA/KOC).
After its continuous investigation in the case, NIA has now attached this training center spread over 10 hectares. Sources said that Green Valley Academy, Manjeri, Kerala is managed by Green Valley Foundation (GVF). It was used by cadres of the Rashtriya Vikas Morcha and later by the PFI, with which it merged. According to sources, the PFI was using this property to impart weapons training, physical training and training on use and testing of explosives to its cadres, who were identified as part of their ‘service wing’.
PFI’s conspiracy to increase radical ideology
The facility was also used to shelter several “PFI Service Wing” members who had committed crimes including murders. The center was allegedly being used for imparting radical and radical ideological training in the divisive and communal agenda and policies of the PFI to its trained operatives, cadres and members. The offices of PFI and its affiliated organizations were functioning from these premises under the guise of educational institutions.
Training centers were running in these areas
The five other PFI training centers attached by the NIA in Kerala include Malabar House, Periyar Valley, Valluvanad House, Karunya Charitable Trust and Trivandrum Education and Service Trust (TEST). Twelve other PFI offices have also been attached, which were allegedly used by the leadership of the organization for conducting arms and physical training, ideological propaganda and training for various crimes including murder and terrorist acts.
Centers running under the guise of religious and educational trusts
Sources said the NIA probe has revealed that PFI is running several such training centers under the guise of charitable and educational trusts formed by the members or leaders of the organisation. He said that the investigation also revealed that PFI had rented several buildings for running its training camps and activities related to terror and violence.
