New Delhi ‘Punjab’s Vijayveer S (Vijayveer ) idhu won his first title in the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (RFP) event for pistol events at the ongoing 67th National Shooting Championship (NSCC) in New Delhi. Paris Olympian Vijayveer defeated fellow Olympian Gurpreet Singh of ‘Army Marksmanship Unit’ 28-25 in the final at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.
Air Force’s Shivam Shukla finished third with a score of 23. Vijayveer finished second in the qualification with 581 points. He was behind Uttar Pradesh’s Ankur Goyal who scored 585 points. Gurpreet announced after the final that this would be his last National Championship competition as he is turning to coaching. He managed to secure the sixth and last position with a score of 575.
In the Junior Men’s RFP, Maharashtra’s Rajvardhan Ashutosh Patil won the gold medal with 31 hits. He gave no chance to the rest of the competitors with three consecutive perfect 5 hits in the fifth, sixth and seventh series. Madhya Pradesh’s Suraj Sharma finished second while Rajasthan’s Abhinav Chaudhary won the bronze medal. Asian Games medallist Vijayveer Sidhu topped the men’s 25m centre-fire pistol event at the 66th National Shooting Championships in pistol events last year.
