Dharamsala: Two teenagers who were trapped in heavy snowfall died due to cold while summiting the ‘Rising Star’ peak situated on the Dhauladhar hills in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district. The police gave this information on Monday. Kangra Superintendent of Police Kaushal Sharma said that two other people accompanying the deceased were rescued by the police and admitted to the regional hospital in Dharamsala.
He said that the police have identified the deceased teenagers as 16-year-old Rohit of Slate Godwan village near Dharamsala and 18-year-old Monty, resident of Nurpur village in the district itself. He said that after getting information about the boys being trapped by the relatives, the police launched rescue operation amid heavy snowfall and reached the place where the boys were trapped.
Sharma said that by the time the police reached the spot, a boy had died, after which he was returning with three other boys, one of whom died on the way to the hospital. He told that the body of a boy is still to be recovered. The superintendent of police said that the body is expected to be retrieved on Tuesday.
Former Himachal Pradesh minister and Congress’s national general secretary Sudhir Sharma condoled the death of the two teenagers and blamed the government’s “lax” disaster management system for the incident.
