Dawid Malan: Big news has come from England. Former England cricketer Dawid Malan has made a new beginning in county cricket. He will play for Gloucestershire in the Vitality Blast in 2026 and 2027. Malan has signed a two-year contract with the club. The 38-year-old was released by Yorkshire by mutual consent last week. He captained Yorkshire in 2025 and scored the most runs for the team in the Vitality Blast in both 2023 and 2024. Prior to this, he spent 13 seasons with Middlesex, leading the team ( team.) to the title in 2008.
A major achievement for England.
Malan retired from international cricket after the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. In his career, he scored a total of eight international centuries across all three formats and was once the world’s number one T20 batsman. Malan also became the first batsman in the world to reach 1,000 runs in T20Is, taking just 24 innings. He played a key role in England’s victory in the 2022 T20 World Cup, although he missed the final due to injury.
Malan also participated in two Ashes tours, including a brilliant 140 in Perth in 2017-18. He also dominates franchise cricket. He won the Bangladesh Premier League title this year with Fortune Barishal and is currently playing in Nepal.
Gloucestershire will gain strength
Gloucestershire won the T20 Blast in 2024 and is aiming to win the title again. Malan says he is impressed by the team’s ambitions. Malan stated that Gloucestershire is an ambitious team.
