Hyderabad beat Bangalore by 4 runs

New Delhi. In the 52nd match of IPL-2021, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 runs in a thrilling style, captained by Virat Kohli. In this match played at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Hyderabad scored 141 for 7 in 20 overs, after which Bangalore team could score 137 runs in 20 overs losing 6 wickets. Young opener Devdutt Padikkal scored 41 runs for RCB and also made a half-century partnership with Glenn Maxwell.

In the last over of Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s innings, Bangalore needed 13 runs to win, George Garten and AB de Villiers were present at the crease. On the second ball, Garten took a single and gave a strike to AB. No run was scored on the third ball but on the fourth ball AB hit an 88 meter long six. No run was scored on the 5th ball as well and a six was needed to win off the last ball, but AB could only take 1 run. AB scored 19 runs in his unbeaten innings of 13 balls with the help of 1 four and 1 six. Jason Holder, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddharth Kaul, Umran Malik and Rashid Khan got 1-1 wickets for Hyderabad.

RCB suffered its fifth defeat in 13 matches in the season while Hyderabad registered its third win in the same number of matches. Although the Bangalore team has already qualified for the playoffs, Hyderabad is out of this race. Bangalore is currently at number three with 16 points while Hyderabad is at the bottom of the 8 team table with 6 points.

Chasing the target of 142 runs, Bangalore had a very poor start and got the first blow in the form of captain Virat Kohli (5). Virat was dismissed lbw by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the last ball of the first over of the innings. Then Christian (1) was caught by Siddharth Kaul in the hands of Williamson. Srikar Bharat (12) also could not do much and returned to the pavilion by hitting 1 four, 1 six in 10 balls, due to which the team’s score was 38 for 3 wickets. Padikkal remained frozen and then shared a 54-run partnership with Glenn Maxwell (40) for the fourth wicket.
Maxwell hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in his finest innings of 25 balls. He was on his way towards his half-century but was unfortunately run out. Williamson’s straight throw sent him towards the pavilion. After this Padikkal also missed a half-century and became the victim of Rashid Khan by scoring 41 runs in 52 balls with the help of 4 fours. Rashid got him caught by Abdul Samad on the 5th ball of the 17th over of the innings.

Earlier, the fast bowler Sunrisers Hyderabad team could score 141 runs for 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In front of the effective bowling of Harshal Patel (3 for 33), Daniel Christian (2 for 14), the Hyderabad batsmen failed to make a big score. Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and George Garten got 1-1 wickets. Shahbaz Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj, while bowling economical, gave 21 and 17 runs in four and three overs respectively but they did not get any wicket.

Apart from Jason Roy (44) and captain Kane Williamson (31), no batsman could play from Hyderabad. Both also shared a 70-run partnership for the second wicket. The Hyderabad batsmen were able to add only 50 runs in the last eight overs. RCB captain Virat Kohli won the toss and invited Hyderabad team to bat. In the second over, Abhishek Sharma (13) hit a four and a six off successive deliveries from George Garten. On the fourth ball, Mohammad Siraj dropped his catch at fine leg but on the next ball he was caught at mid-on by Glenn Maxwell.

Captain Williamson started his innings with two fours on Siraj. Opener Roy also hit a four on Garten. Hyderabad team scored 50 runs in one wicket in the powerplay. Left-arm spinner Shahbaz and leg-spinner Chahal put an end to the run-rate. Roy and Williamson played some good shots in the middle. Williamson, however, failed to take advantage of a good start and was bowled by Harshal. He hit four fours while facing 29 balls.

Priyam Garg (15) hit a six on Chahal and completed the team’s century in the 14th over. In the same over, the umpire caught Roy behind the wicket, but the decision on taking DRS went in favor of the batsman. Christian gave a double blow to Sunrisers by dismissing Garg and Roy in the 15th over. Garg gave a catch to AB de Villiers at deep midwicket while Roy returned to the pavilion by catching the bowler back. Roy faced 38 balls and hit 5 fours. Chahal lbw Abdul Samad (01) to make Sunrisers 117 for five wickets.

Wriddhiman Saha also got caught by de Villiers off Harshal’s ball after scoring 10 runs in eight balls. Meanwhile, Jason Holder tried to increase the run rate with fours on Christian and Harshal. He returned to the pavilion on the last ball after scoring 16 runs.
