Wayanad: Disaster (Disaster) rained from the sky in Wayanad, the hilly district of Kerala. Several incidents of landslides have been reported after heavy rains in many places in the early hours of Tuesday. The death toll in Wayanad district due to landslides has risen to 123. Hundreds of people are still feared to be trapped in the debris. Local officials say that the death toll may increase further. Relief and rescue operations have been further accelerated.
Two days of mourning in the state
Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan has expressed deep grief after so many people lost their lives in the landslide due to rain. The Chief Minister said that the state government is very saddened by this incident, in which many people have lost their lives. Property has been damaged on a large scale. Along with this, the CM has declared two days of mourning (30 and 31 July) from Tuesday. All public functions and festivals in the state have also been postponed. PM Modi and President Draupadi Murmu have also expressed grief over this incident.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka canceled the visit to Wayanad
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi has expressed grief over the deaths caused by the landslide. Due to heavy rains, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have canceled their visit to Wayanad on Wednesday. They have given this information on social media platform X. Rahul Gandhi said that due to continuous rain and bad weather, his plane will not be able to land there. Our sympathies are with the people of Wayanad in this difficult time.
Army, Navy and NDRF personnel engaged in relief and rescue work
After several incidents of landslides were reported in the district, the soldiers of the Army, Navy and NDRF got involved in the rescue work. Amidst bad weather, the search for the victims of the accident was carried out, which is going on till late night. Several agencies are working together to provide necessary assistance to the affected people.

During the day, rescue workers have recovered bodies of people from rivers and mud. The deceased also include many women and children and the bodies have been kept in various hospitals for identification and post-mortem. Officials said that the landslide affected areas include Mundakkai, Choorlammala, Attmala and Noolpuzha villages.
