New Delhi: In view of the changing scenario in the world and global challenges, the Indian Navy is also engaged in increasing its preparedness. For this, the Defense Ministry has signed a big deal with America.
According to the ministry, the Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare aircraft P-8I will be made more lethal. For this, Mk 54 torpedoes will be procured at a cost of Rs 423 crore. Along with this, expandables like chaff and flares will also be purchased. An agreement has been signed with the US government for this.
“The Defense Ministry has signed an agreement with the US Government under Foreign Military Sale for the purchase of Mk 54 Torpedoes and Expandables (Chaffs and Flares) for the Indian Navy at a cost of Rs 423 crores,” a ministry spokesperson said on Friday. He said that these devices are part of the P-8I aircraft.
Let us inform that there are a total of 11 P-8I aircraft in the Indian Navy’s fleet. These aircraft are produced by the American aeronautical company Boeing. The P-8I aircraft is known for its anti-submarine warfare capabilities as well as advanced maritime reconnaissance capabilities. This deal is considered to be very important to deal with the increasing challenge from Chinese submarines in the Indo-Pacific region.
