Center objected to US report on religious freedom issue,

New Delhi: The central government has strongly objected to the US report on religious freedom in India. The Indian Foreign Ministry termed this report of the Commission on International Religious Freedom as biased and wrong. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that, we have seen the USCIRF report. Seeing this, it was found that the people who prepared the report have very little understanding about India.

Arindam Bagchi said that, the members of this American commission have very little understanding of India’s constitutional structure, pluralism and democratic ethos. It is unfortunate that USCIRF is misrepresenting facts in its report with an agenda. Such reports raise questions about the credibility and impartiality of an organization.

The report, released in June, recommended to the Biden administration that India, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan and 11 other countries be classified as countries of particular concern over the issue of religious freedom.

Although this is not the first time, this American commission had published such a report even before this. In the year 2020, a top Trump administration official had said that whatever is happening in India on the issue of religious freedom is worrying. Although he had described India as a historically tolerant country, but expressed concern over the current situation.

The Indian government at that time also rejected the report of the US Commission and said that no foreign government has the right to adjudicate on the status of constitutional rights of its citizens.
