New Delhi. A big statement has come from state-owned power producer NTPC amidst apprehension of disaster in Joshimath, Uttarakhand. NTPC has said that the tunnel of its Tapovan Vishnugarh hydropower project has nothing to do with the landslide in Joshimath.
This statement of NTPC has come in the background of declaring Joshimath as a landslide affected area. According to the statement, “The tunnel of Tapovan Vishnugarh hydroelectric project is also being held responsible for the land subsidence in Joshimath town. It is clarified that the tunnel constructed by NTPC is not passing under Joshimath town.
The company is not doing any explosion – NTPC
According to the company, this tunnel has been constructed with tunnel boring machine and at present the company is not doing any blasting work on this project being built on Dhauliganga river. According to the statement, “NTPC would like to inform with full responsibility that the tunnel has nothing to do with the landslide happening in Joshimath town. In such an odd situation, the company expresses its sympathy and condolences to the people of Joshimath.

The local people are also blaming the NTPC tunnel. Against which there have been many protests in Joshimath. An eight kilometer long tunnel has been dug from Tapovan side near Joshimath town with boring machines. The work on the power project is going on for more than a decade. NTPC is completely denying that the tunnel is responsible for the crisis in Joshimath, but the local people do not agree with this.
