This happened for the first time in India’s 71-year Test history. Then Team India defeated the Kangaroos 2-1 in the Test series at their own home. The hero of this historic victory was Cheteshwar Pujara. Pujara scored 521 runs in the series, including his 193-run innings in the Sydney Test. This experienced batsman from Saurashtra was adjudged Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah took 21 wickets while wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant scored a century in the Sydney Test. India captured the series as soon as the Sydney Test was drawn. In the fourth and last Test of the series played in Sydney, three days of rain and bad light disturbed. In such a situation, the result could not come out in this test. The Indian team had been touring Australia since the year 1947 but before that it had not won any Test series there.

India took lead by winning Melbourne Test
Team India, captained by Virat Kohli, won the first Test match of the series. The first Test match played in Adelaide was named after India. The Kangaroos made a spectacular comeback in the Perth Test and defeated India to level the series 1-1. After this, in the third Test played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Kohli and Co., they took a 2-1 lead in the series by defeating the hosts by 137 runs. After this everyone’s eyes were on the Sydney Test where the rain also showed its game. Although the Sydney Test was drawn and Team India was successful in winning the Test series for the first time on the land of Kangaroos.

India became the first Asian country
The Indian team is the first Asian team to win the Test series in Australia. Kohli became the only Indian under whose leadership Team India did this feat. India is the fifth team in the world to win the Test series in Australia. Before Team India, the teams of England, West Indies, New Zealand and South Africa have been successful in winning the Test series in Australia. Talking about the overall Test series win abroad, it was India’s 19th win.
