Dhanbad: In the murder case of Dhanbad Additional Sessions Court judge Uttam Anand, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Saturday sentenced two convicts to life imprisonment. Rahul Verma and Lakhan Verma were charged under sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code for the murder of Dhanbad judge Uttam Anand.
The judge was murdered on July 28 last year
A special CBI court headed by Justice Rajinikanth Pathak sentenced both the convicts to rigorous imprisonment till death and also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000. On July 28 last year, Judge Uttam Anand was out for a morning walk when an auto hit him by Lakhan Verma. The judge was taken to the hospital but later died.
CBI had investigated in Judge Uttam Anand murder case
After a year in the Judge Uttam Anand murder case, a special CBI court has now sentenced Lakhan Verma and Rahul Verma to life imprisonment. The matter was first investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Jharkhand Police before the High Court took cognizance of the matter. However, the investigation was later handed over to the CBI from the Jharkhand Police SIT, which found that Lakhan and Rahul Verma were involved in the crime.
During the trial, the prosecution had stated that the motive of the incident was to snatch the judge’s mobile phone and it was a well-planned conspiracy, for which he should be convicted under Section 302 of the IPC. On the other hand, the defense had argued that the incident was not intentional and hence the charge of murder could not be levied.
In the murder case, the court took care of these things
After the verdict, defense counsel Kumar Bimlendu told that “the judge had recently convicted both the accused of murder. The court only took into account the statement of eyewitness Shravan Kumar, who said that the auto deliberately moved towards the judge and hit him. After which he died. The court also relied on the CFSL report, which stated that both the accused were not intoxicated during the crime.
