Mumbai: In the sixth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Giants by 7 wickets to register their second consecutive victory. Captain Harmanpreet ( Harmanpreet ) Kaur played a key role in Mumbai’s victory, achieving the historic feat with a brilliant half-century. She scored an unbeaten 71 runs off just 43 balls. This marked the milestone of completing 1,000 runs in WPL history. She is the first Indian player to score 1,000 runs in WPL history. This is only the second time in WPL history that this has happened. Before Harmanpreet, only Nat Sciver-Brunt had achieved this feat. Significantly, Sciver-Brunt also reached 1,000 runs last season while playing for the Mumbai Indians and now have 1,101 runs in the WPL. Harmanpreet achieved this milestone in the 29th innings of her 30th match.

A third player is expected to join Harmanpreet and Sciver’s special club soon. Australia’s Meg Lanning needs just 4 runs to reach 1,000 runs. Following Harmanpreet, India’s Shafali Verma also has a great chance to reach 1,000 runs. She is just 113 runs away from this milestone. She could achieve this feat in the next few matches.

Harmanpreet Plays a Captain’s Inning
In this thrilling match played in Navi Mumbai on January 13th in WPL 2026, Gujarat Giants, batting first, posted a strong score of 192 for 5. Gujarat’s innings was finally bolstered by a quick partnership between Bharti Fulmali and Georgia Wareham, helping the team post a big total. Together, they added 39 runs in the last two overs. Chasing the target of 193, Mumbai Indians got off to a steady start, but captain Harmanpreet Kaur did the real work. The 36-year-old Harmanpreet played a captain’s innings under pressure, scoring 71 runs off 43 balls and remaining unbeaten. In this innings, she displayed a perfect blend of aggression and understanding.

Along with Harmanpreet, other batsmen also made significant contributions, helping Mumbai Indians reach 193 runs for the loss of three wickets in 19.2 overs and defeat Gujarat for the eighth time.
