Municipal Corporation sealed from outside  (Municipal)

Meerut: The Municipal  (Municipal) Corporation team in Meerut on Tuesday sealed the entrance of the Regional Manager office of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UP Roadways) to recover the outstanding tax of Rs 29 crore. When this seal was put, the officers and employees of the office were present inside. This action has created a stir in the transport corporation. After about five hours, the seal was removed on the intervention of the District Magistrate. Tax officer Rajesh Kumar Singh said that Rs 29 crore house tax is outstanding at the Regional Manager (RM) office of Roadways in Meerut.
Notices were given several times by the Municipal Corporation but the roadways officials neither deposited the tax amount nor gave any satisfactory reply to the notice. For this reason, sealing action has been taken on the orders of higher officials. Bharat Bhushan, an accountant posted in the RM office, alleges that the Municipal Corporation team left after sealing the door of the office without telling anything. The team did not even feel the need to evacuate employees during this operation.

He told that during the sealing proceedings, more than 35 officers and employees were present in the Regional Manager’s office. In-charge regional manager Lokesh Rajput said that he has informed the state headquarters about the action taken by the Municipal Corporation. Apart from this, Meerut Commissioner has also been informed about the matter. According to tax officer Rajesh Kumar Singh, the last notice regarding house tax collection was given to the regional office in November last year.
Roadways officials kept refusing to collect the tax every time saying that even in Varanasi no house tax is collected from the Roadways office. On this he was told that the case of Varanasi is different. The Roadways office is in the cantonment area. He told that after the intervention of District Magistrate Deepak Meena at around 4 pm, the seal on the door of the office of the Regional Manager of Roadways was removed.
