Varanasi–New Delhi Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Approved, Overnight Journey to Become Easier
The Railway Board has approved a new overnight Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, with stops planned at Prayagraj, Kanpur Central, Aligarh and Ghaziabad.
Indian Railways has approved a new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between Varanasi and New Delhi, marking another development in the expansion of modern passenger rail services. The proposed overnight service is designed to give passengers a faster and more comfortable option for travelling between Uttar Pradesh and the national capital.
The Indian Express reported on October 28 that the Railway Board had approved the service, which is expected to be operated by Northern Railway. The official launch date has not yet been announced.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Route and Stoppages
The proposed service will operate between Varanasi and New Delhi, covering approximately 760 kilometres. The published schedule indicates a journey time of around nine and a half hours, depending on the direction of travel.
The planned intermediate stops are:
-
Prayagraj
-
Kanpur Central
-
Aligarh
-
Ghaziabad
These stops could make the service useful to passengers travelling between several major cities along the route.
Proposed Timings and Coach Facilities
According to the published Railway Board details reported by the Indian Express, the train is expected to depart from Varanasi at 8:50 pm and arrive in New Delhi at 6:10 am the following morning.
In the return direction, it is scheduled to leave New Delhi at 9:40 pm and reach Varanasi at 7:10 am. The reported operating plan is six days a week in each direction, with different weekly non-operating days.
The proposed 16-coach train will offer three accommodation classes: First AC, Second AC and Third AC. These sleeping arrangements are intended to support overnight travel more comfortably than conventional daytime chair-car services.
Benefits for Passengers
An overnight sleeper service can allow passengers to travel while resting and arrive at their destination in the morning. It may be particularly useful for business travellers, families and people making short visits between Varanasi and Delhi.
However, actual journey times, fares, booking dates and operating schedules should be confirmed through official railway announcements before travel plans are finalised.
When Will Bookings Begin?
Although the Railway Board has approved the service, passengers should not assume that tickets are already available. The confirmed launch date, fare structure and booking arrangements will need to be announced by the railway authorities.
Conclusion: The approval of the Varanasi–New Delhi Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is an important development for overnight rail travel. Passengers should watch for official launch and reservation announcements before making plans.
