The operation to rescue workers trapped for more than 11 days at the Silkyara tunnel collapse site in Uttarakhand’s Uttarakhand has reached its final stage on Wednesday after several NDRF personnel entered the tunnel.
NDRF rescue team said that the operation is likely to be completely completed by 8 am on Thursday. However, after work was halted for a few hours, the team faced another challenge as a metal pipe blocked the machine. Rescue workers have completed the work of drilling 45 meters of pipe to rescue the trapped workers. Personnel were also seen going inside the tunnel with ropes and stretchers. It is expected that the workers will also be taken out soon.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to take stock of the ongoing rescue operations in the tunnel. PM Modi inquired about food, essential commodities and medicines being supplied to the stranded workers through the new and extensive pipeline laid for this purpose. The first picture of the trapped workers came on Tuesday through an endoscopic flexi camera sent across this new pipeline and debris.

The operation to save 41 laborers trapped in the tunnel of Uttarkashi is going on. Medical equipment was delivered to the spot late at night. A temporary hospital has been set up there.

Girish Singh Rawat, one of the members of the rescue operation team, said that ‘The rescue operation is almost in the final stages, hopefully the results will come in 1-2 hours. Pipelines are being laid to take out the workers. The pieces of steel stuck in the debris have been cut and removed.
