Wagner Group: Former US General Robert Abrams has claimed that, “Yevgeny Prigozhin,(Prigozhin ) head of the Wagner Group, is either dead or in prison after a failed coup against Russian President Vladimir Putin.” His statement came at a time when Pres. Putin has met the rebel group. Abrams said, ‘It is my personal doubt that Prigozhin can ever be seen in public again. I think he will either be hidden, or sent to jail, or dealt with in some other way.
Is Prigozhin alive?
When asked whether he believed Prigozhin was still alive. To this General Abrams said, ‘I personally do not think he is alive, and if he is, he is in prison somewhere.’ Earlier this week, Russia said that Prigozhin and his men had spoken to Vladimir Putin Met and pledged loyalty to the government after five days of armed rebellion. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the three-hour meeting took place on 29 June and was attended not only by Prigozhin but also by the commander of his Wagner Group military contractor.
Loyalty as well as rebellion?
These mercenaries of Russia fought for Russia and revolted as well? But in the meeting, the soldiers of Wagner group told their side’s story. The Kremlin spokesman told that, ‘They are staunch supporters and soldiers of the head of state and commander-in-chief, and also said that they are ready to continue fighting for their motherland.’
On his part, it was confirmed that, ‘Putin met the Wagner group face to face’. At the same time, last month he marched to Moscow to demand military changes. After the rebellion, Russia declared Prigozhin a traitor and vowed severe punishment. But later the criminal case against the head of the mercenary on charges of mutiny was dropped.
