New Delhi. Ajit Pawar has joined the Eknath Shinde government as Deputy Chief Minister ( ministries ) after the split in the NCP, but there is still no consensus among all the parties regarding the distribution of ministries. If sources are to be believed, Ajit Pawar wants one of the ministries of Home, Finance or Urban Development, while the Chief Minister is not ready to give all these to the new party that has joined the government. This is the reason that despite the passage of nine days for taking the oath, the ministries have not been decided yet. Pawar was the finance minister in the previous Mahavikas Aghadi government.
If sources are to be believed, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is willing to give only one of the energy or revenue ministry to the newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Both these portfolios are currently with the BJP. At the same time, Fadnavis is not willing to give Home Ministry to Pawar. Pawar has demanded irrigation, rural development, tourism, social justice, women and child welfare and excise department for his MLAs.
Making pressure on MLA Shinde
Shinde and BJP MLAs are also seen struggling to get the ministry. Sources say that as many ministries are not available as the demand is coming to become a minister. The MLAs are pressurizing Chief Minister Shinde to become a minister. Only a maximum of 43 ministers can be made in the Maharashtra government. If sources are to be believed, Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis have held talks with their MLAs together as well as separately. During this meeting, which MLA will be given which ministerial post, it has been discussed.
Shinde can make only 43 ministers
A senior BJP official said, “The cabinet will be expanded within the next two days. Maharashtra has the maximum number of ministers at 43. In such a situation, five ministers each are expected to be made from BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP. It was also said that the possibility of making ministers of state is very less. Whoever takes the oath will directly become a cabinet minister. According to sources, ministerial posts will be given on the basis of caste equation more than performance.
Ministry will be decided in two days
During a conversation with the media, Uday Sammat, a minister in the Maharashtra government, said, ‘The cabinet will be expanded in the next 48 to 72 hours. All the three leaders are well aware of Maharashtra and its geography. We have full faith in Shinde’s leadership. Departments will be distributed to the MLAs on the basis of efficiency.
