Aizawl. A 25-year-old man, who sustained 17 bullet ( bullets) injuries during ethnic clashes in Manipur, is being treated at a government hospital in neighboring Mizoram. An official gave this information on Monday. The victim has been identified as Poginmuan. He was taken to Aizawl Government Hospital from Churachandpur district of the neighboring state on Sunday for better medical facilities.

At least 17 bullets were fired at him from a country-made pistol during the violence in the village on May 3, the official said. Bullets hit him in the back and neck. Four of these bullets were removed in Churachandpur itself. He said that the doctors in Churachandpur said that they did not have the necessary equipment to remove the bullets lodged near the spinal cord and conducting nerves, after which Poginmuan was taken to Aizawl. Went.

The officer said that efforts to extract the bullets continued on Monday as well.  before he was taken to the ‘Operation Theatre’. Poginmuan, who belongs to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo tribe, claimed that he and his friends were protecting their village when some armed miscreants attacked them after a ‘tribal solidarity march’ ended on May 3 .

Poginmuan claimed that two of his friends were killed and he was injured. Violent clashes broke out in the northeastern state after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in 10 hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. At least 73 people were killed while 231 were injured and 1,700 houses, including religious places, were burnt in the ethnic violence.
