What is the background of the Bathani Tola massacre?

According to Arun Sinha’s 2011 book ‘Nitish Kumar and the Rise of Bihar’, when the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) and Samras Samaj Party (SSP) reached the rural areas of Bihar in the 1970s, the social fabric of the state gradually started changing. Under the leadership of these parties, by the mid-1970s, the working class started raising their voice against the landlords and land grabbers from the upper castes. This led to the beginning of a bloody struggle. This spark led to the Belchi massacre in 1977, in which many Dalits were killed after entering the village.
