The body of one of the eight people trapped under the debris of the tunnel in Telangana ( Telangana) was recovered on Sunday. A part of the tunnel of ‘Srisailam Left Bank Canal’ (SLBC) had collapsed here. At the time of the accident, the workers were inside the tunnel and eight people were buried inside it. Rescue operations have been going on for two weeks to search for these people. However, there is no possibility of the eight people buried under the debris being alive.
The body of one person was recovered. The bodies of the remaining workers may be found in the coming days. Rescue teams recovered the body of a person from 10 feet below the silt. A police officer said that the body has been sent to Nagarkurnool Civil Hospital for post-mortem and other procedures.
Body found after careful digging
The police officer said that the body could be taken out after digging and other efforts of “very careful” for more than 48 hours. He said that the body was buried under silt at a depth of about 10 feet. The police officer said that efforts are on to identify the deceased. Rescue officials praised the role of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), state-owned mining company Singareni Collieries Limited and ‘rat hole’ miners in the operation. The officer said that the search for the remaining workers trapped due to the tunnel collapse is going on.
Sniffer dogs are also helping
The state government had also involved the dog squads of Kerala Police in the rescue operation and the rescue workers dug at the places where the dog squads detected human presence. These dogs are trained to detect missing people and bodies. People including engineers and laborers are trapped in the SLBC project tunnel since February 22. Experts from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, Navy and other agencies are continuously making efforts to evacuate them safely.
