New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh (Rajnath Singh ) on Thursday refused to sign the joint statement in the SCO meeting in China. Rajnath Singh indirectly took a dig at Pakistan and raised the issue of cross-border terrorism. During this, the Defense Minister appealed to the member countries to bring the culprits of such acts to justice and emphasized India’s anti-terrorism stance. Reports say that signing the joint statement in the SCO meeting will weaken India’s stand against terrorism as it did not even mention the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed on April 22.
Rajnath Singh targeted Pakistan
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh targeted Pakistan and said that the culprits, financiers and sponsors of terrorism should be held accountable and double standards should not be adopted in dealing with it. In his address at a conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Singh said that some countries are using cross-border terrorism as a “policy tool” to shelter terrorists.
‘Peace-prosperity and terrorism cannot go together’
Rajnath Singh said, “The biggest challenges in our region are related to peace, security and lack of trust.” He said, “And the root cause of these problems is increasing radicalism, extremism and terrorism.” Singh said that peace-prosperity and terrorism cannot go together. He said that peace cannot be maintained by handing over weapons of mass destruction to non-state actors and terrorist groups. The Defence Minister said, “Decisive action is required to deal with these challenges and we have to fight unitedly against these evils for our collective security.”
‘There should be no double standards against terrorism’
The Defence Minister said that those who sponsor, nurture and use terrorism for their narrow and selfish purposes will have to face the consequences. He said that there should be no place for double standards in dealing with terrorism. Singh said that the SCO should not hesitate to criticise countries that adopt double standards in dealing with this threat.
Rajnath Singh explained India’s policy against terrorism
Rajnath Singh also said that the method of the Pahalgam terror attack was similar to the previous terrorist attacks of Lashkar-e-Taiba in India. He said that India is adopting a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. The Defence Minister also said that India has remained firm on its policy in support of peace, security and stability in Afghanistan.
