Now an American citizen has been arrested for entering North Sentinel Island. Police gave information about this entire incident on Wednesday.

Police have said that on March 31, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a 24-year-old man named Mikhailo Viktorovich Polyakov. This person allegedly went to North or North Sentinel Island without any permission. According to the police, the American citizen reached Port Blair on March 26. After this he reached North Sentinel Island from Kurma Dera beach.

What did the American citizen do on North Sentinel?

According to the police, the American citizen left the boat from Kurma Dera beach at around 1 am on March 29. In this boat, he had kept a coconut and other items for the Sentinelese people (tribe of North Sentinel). According to the information, Polyakov reached the north-eastern coast of North Sentinel Island by 10 am. After reaching here, he inspected the area with binoculars. However, he did not see any resident here. Polyakov stayed on the coast for an hour and also kept whistling to attract someone’s attention. But he did not get any response. Police have said that Polyakov also went down for about five minutes. He left food on the shore, took sand samples and recorded a video before returning to his boat. He started his return journey at 1 pm and reached Kurma Dera beach by 7 pm. Here he was seen by local fishermen.

US citizen detained for questioning

Director General of Police HS Dhaliwal said, “We are gathering more information about him and also trying to find out about his intention to go to the reserved tribal area. We are also trying to find out where else he went during his stay in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. We are questioning the staff of the hotel where he stayed in Port Blair.” An inflatable boat, an outboard motor and other items have been seized from the US citizen. He had prepared these in a local workshop. The US citizen has been detained for questioning on the court’s direction. The news of the arrest of the accused has been given to the Home Department so that the Ministry of External Affairs and the US Embassy can be informed about it.
