Effect of the government’s decision Kuwaiti citizenship after marriage(Kuwaiti )

Kuwait: Recently, the citizenship of more than 42,000 people has been canceled in Kuwait,  (Kuwaiti ) causing anxiety and instability in the country. This action has been taken under the leadership of the new Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who has taken several tough steps since taking power in May 2024.

The government tightened its grip on the opponents
The Emir dissolved the parliament, calling democracy a threat to the state, and announced amendments to the constitution. Since then, the government has started cracking down on the opponents, including arrests from MPs to ordinary citizens. International human rights organizations have termed these actions as repressive.

Impact on women
The biggest impact of the cancellation of citizenship has been on women who had obtained citizenship after marrying Kuwaiti men. Now these women have been deprived of government health services, children’s education and social benefits. The government claims that this step has been taken against those foreigners who had illegally acquired Kuwaiti citizenship. However, critics say that this action is a violation of human rights and can increase social instability.

Kuwait took a big decision
Meanwhile, Kuwait has also decided to expel about one lakh foreign immigrants living illegally from the country. The government has stopped the fine-waiver scheme and is moving forward with the plan to deport illegal residents. Kuwaiti individuals or companies employing illegal people will also face charges.

Helpline has been started
The government has even started a helpline to inform people about fake citizens. Overall, these recent harsh steps in Kuwait have fueled social and political instability in the country, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the public.
