Why do earthquakes occur?

Earthquake is a sudden movement on the surface of the earth, which mostly occurs due to the movement of tectonic plates.

Main reasons for earthquake?

Movement of tectonic plates: The outer layer of the Earth is divided into many tectonic plates. These plates keep moving continuously at a very slow speed. When two plates collide, slip, or go under each other, there is tension. When this tension becomes too much, it is released in the form of a shock, this is an earthquake.

Movement on the fault line: There are some special cracks on the surface of the Earth which are called “faults”. The ground near these cracks is more unstable. When the stress accumulated on the edges of these faults is suddenly released, an earthquake occurs there.

Volcanic eruption: Volcanic eruptions can also cause earthquakes locally. These are called “volcanic earthquakes”.
