Ghana: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Ghana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Ghana after 30 years. On reaching Ghana on Wednesday, President Mahama warmly welcomed PM Modi at the airport. Prime Minister Modi was also given a 21-gun salute along with a guard of honor. Meanwhile, while addressing the Ghana Parliament, as soon as PM Modi said Namaste in the Ghanaian language, the House echoed with thunderous applause. At the beginning of his address, Prime Minister Modi said, “I feel extremely proud to address this prestigious House today. It is a matter of good fortune to be in Ghana, this is a land that is imbued with the spirit of democracy.” (‘Democracy i) PM Modi also mentioned the friendship between Ghana and India.
PM Modi expressed gratitude for the highest honor
PM Modi said, “As a representative of the world’s largest democracy, I have brought with me the goodwill and best wishes of 1.4 billion Indians. He said that the land of Ghana is known for gold. Ghana is not known for what is inside its land, it is for what is inside the heart here. I express my gratitude on behalf of 140 crore Indians for the highest honor received from Ghana.”
‘For India, democracy is not a system but a sanskar’
While addressing the Parliament of Ghana, PM Modi said that India is the mother of democracy. For India, democracy is not a system but a sanskar. He said that there are 2 thousand 500 political parties in India. 20 different parties are running the government in different states. This is the reason why people coming to India are given a grand welcome in India. In Ghana, the people of India are mixed in the same way as sugar is mixed in tea. PM Modi said, when we look at Ghana, we see a nation that stands with courage. Your commitment to inclusive progress has truly made Ghana a centre of inspiration for the entire African continent.
India is writing a new chapter of development
Addressing the Parliament of Ghana, PM Modi said, India talks about “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah Sarve Santu Niramayaah Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu Ma Kashchit Dukhbhag Bhavet.” The PM also raised the issue of terrorism in the Parliament of Ghana. He said that terrorism is a big issue and a big problem for the world, along with this climate change is also a big issue. The PM said that today India is writing a new chapter of development. It is such a pleasant cooperation that Africa is associated with many glorious moments of India. When India’s Chandrayaan landed on the South Pole, I was in India, today when an astronaut of India is in space for the welfare of humanity, even then I am in Africa.
‘The world order is changing rapidly’
Prime Minister Modi said that changing circumstances require credible and effective reforms in global governance. Revolution in technology, the rise of the Global South and changes in demographics are contributing to its speed and scale. The world order created after the Second World War is changing rapidly. We have decided to elevate our relations to a comprehensive partnership. He said, respected members, India and Ghana have traces of colonial rule in their history, but our spirit has always been independent and fearless. We draw strength and inspiration from our rich heritage. We are proud of our social, cultural and linguistic diversity. We have built nations based on freedom, unity and dignity. Our relations have no boundaries.
PM Modi mentioned Dr. Kwame Nkrumah
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that today I had the honour of paying tribute to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, a visionary, a statesman and a beloved son of Ghana. He once said, ‘The forces that unite us are inherent and are much greater than the imposed influences that keep us apart.’ His words guide our shared journey. His dream was of a democratic republic based on strong institutions. True democracy promotes discussion and debate. It unites people.’
Indian women are ahead in every field
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the institutions built in the last century are struggling to respond. Changing circumstances demand credible and effective reforms in global governance.
